Hatch Motors is the next generation of Hatch & Sons Automotive at 406 Main Street. Hatch & Sons began back in Bob Hatch’s garage in the late 1960’s as a hobby after returning home from the Air Force. His three sons (Kenny, David, and Jimmy) helped out as they acquired overlooked American cars and made them look and drive like new again. In 1969, Bob purchased his first Mercedes-Benz; a 1961 Mercedes-Benz 220SE. As he began to work on it, Bob couldn’t help but notice the incredible attention to detail and overall workmanship put into the car. In 1973 after owning various Mercedes sedans, he had the opportunity to purchase his first SL – a 1967 Mercedes-Benz 230SL which he then restored. Bob was soon enticed into the brand. This fostered the idea of Hatch & Sons, and in 1987 the dream finally became a reality when he opened the business in Hudson, MA. The business started with Bob, his wife Sandy, and his sons Kenny and Jimmy. In a short time the business grew exponentially as sales, restoration, service, and number of employees increased. Later, Bob’s son David joined the team. The passion of the Hatch family and the pursuit of perfection was the key to their success. As the business grew, a larger facility was necessary to keep up with customer demand. In 1995, Bob purchased a 25,000 square-foot facility in Wayland, Massachusetts. As the 21st century turned, the business was still growing along with their reputation. Hatch & Sons soon turned into one of, if not the most reputable restoration shops for Mercedes-Benz in the world. In 2005, Bob and Sandy were nearing retirement and received an offer they could not refuse from Foreign Motors West, and the business and Wayland facility were sold. Bob soon realized that retirement was not all it was cracked up to be, and he quickly grew tired of the lack of work. Opportunity presented itself and Bob’s dream was re-realized in late 2005 when he purchased the original Hatch & Sons Automotive building at 406 Main Street in Hudson, MA to focus on buying and selling the finest European automobiles in the world. A conscious decision was made to forego service and restoration work to focus on sales. After a complete renovation of the original building, Bob, his son Jimmy, and his grandson Chris were ready for a new beginning. In September 2018 Bob decided it was time to hand the reigns over to his son Jimmy and take on a less full time role in the daily operations. With over thirty years of experience in the classic car business, we have gained the knowledge and experience that is needed to bring our customer the finest automobiles in the world. Since 1973, Bob has owned more than one-hundred and twenty-five Mercedes-Benz 230, 250, and 280SL’s and serviced and restored many more for his customers.
