This exceptional 1992 Porsche 964 Carrera Cup USA has had 4 owners. It was originally sold at Porsche of Danbury CT. Cup USA’s are extremely rare with only 45 cars produced. All were imported disguised in street trim to Porsche’s import center in Charleston, South Carolina, specifically for a U.S. based race series intended to mirror the Carrera Cup series that supported Formula 1 races in Europe. 25 examples and 4 spare cars of the 45 were sent to Andial (now Porsche Motorsport North America) to be identically converted to race series specifications. When the series was cancelled the 25 primary cars and spares were then reconverted to street trim and quietly offered for sale to the public with the remaining 16 cars still in Charleston. This example is #24 of the Andial converted cars.
These 45 cars were ”twins” to the European Carrera RS with the following exceptions. All had DOT compliant airbags (with required electric windows), alarm system, U.S. lighting, rear glass with 3rd brake light, U.S. bumpers, aluminum wheels, and standard seats. The cars otherwise were the exact same specification as the European Carrera RS. Included were the following, lightweight seam welded chassis, undercoating delete, lightweight interior trim, aluminum hood with prop rod, lightweight door glass, suspension, brakes, G50/10 transmission with steel synchros and a limited slip and the M64/03 engine all exactly like the European Carrera RS resulting in an approximately 200 pounds (90 kg) weight savings over a normal U.S. Carrera 2 model.
