This Alpina B6 2.8 spent its entire life in the Netherlands in the City of Goor until we commissioned a sympathetic restoration carried out by mark expert Oldenzaal Classics and imported it in the Fall of 2021.
The original owner was a Mr. Bonte who originally bought the car from the authorized Alpina distributor in the Netherlands, Piet Oldenhof. The car left the BMW factory on September 18th, 1980 and was sent to the BMW Distributor in the Netherlands. It was received by Oldenhof in March of 1981 where it was converted to an Alpina B6 2.8 by the Alpina importer. In the Netherlands, France and England Alpina sent parts to do “in-country conversions by their authorized distributors to avoid the heavy taxes levied on the cars by the respective country. The tax on cars in the Netherlands at the time was in excess of 25% of the original cost of the car. Once purchased, Mr. Bonte wanted something even more outrageous than an Alpina B6 and had Oldenhof send the car to Rainier Buchmann of Buchmann & Buchmann who was famous in the 80’s and 90’s for doing white-out treatments to exotic automobiles such as Porsche 928’s and 911’s as well as many Mercedes coupes. BBi was famous for the use of white pearlescent paint and wild interior designs. The BBi white out conversion was completed in the Fall of 1981 and the car was first registered on January 15, 1982.
Over the next decade (80’s) Mr Bonte and his wife would take their one off Alpina on holidays and weekend caravans putting 40,000 of its kilometers on the car. For the next decade (90’s) the car travelled less than 5,000 kilometers but was faithfully serviced. Records show the car was used less than 4,500 kilometers in the (00’s).
In 2012 it was sold upon the death of Mr Bonte to another native of Goor who owns Ibalo Classics who amassed another 4,000 Kilometers from 2012 through 2019.
We found the car searching the internet looking for an original documented E21 Alpina B6 2.8. I found the car on Ibalo Classics in the Netherlands in the “BBi White out” configuration. I had a friend who owns Oldenzaal Classics go and see the car in person (travel restrictions prevented me from entering the country during COVID). He confirmed the car was an actual Alpina and to his surprise the paint underneath the undercoating and in areas of the engine bay was Yellow. Upon further discovery it was learned the car was originally Korona yellow when delivered by BMW. What better color for an Alpina than Koronagelb in the year of the Corona Virus.
1982 Alpina Before Restoration
A deal was struck and the car was sent to Oldenzaal Classics who specialize in high quality restorations of BMW’s. The B&B treatments were removed, the car was repainted it in its original shade of yellow and the mechanicals were sorted. The heavy undercoating that was applied on the undercarriage was dry ice blasted revealing the original undercarriage in perfect condition complete with its authentic Alpina parts. The interior remains in its original condition without the BBi treatments that were on the door panels.
