The BMW Z8 roadster, designed by Henrik Fisker, was a modern interpretation of the company’s iconic 507 of the late 1950’s With similar body styling cues, the new Z8 lived up to that BMW’s claim. Like its spiritual predecessor the two-seat convertible Z8 was a capable sports car, but also a refined gentleman’s express.
The Z8 was powered by the same 4.9-liter V-8 engine that was used in the M5. Using a DOHC and 32-valve setup to produce 394 hp mated to a 6 speed Getrag transmission, the car produced swift acceleration and lofty top end speed. Period road tests showed the Z8 could sprint from 0 to 60 in less than the factory-reported time of 4.7 seconds, with a top speed up to 170 mph (without the 155 mph restrictor). Underneath its hand-finished, alloy coachwork was an aluminum space frame. Four-wheel independent suspension, disc brakes, perfect 50/50 weight distribution, and a six-speed manual transmission all emphasized that the Z8 was built for driving, and the car was confident when pushed on twisty roads and quick through the straights.
This exceptional Black/Red Z8 has traveled 18,618 documented miles and is one of the finest available anywhere. Its original California owner amassed 16,500 of the miles before parting with the car. The car has been maintained to the highest standard with the entire service history has been performed only by factory trained Z8 certified technicians. The car comes with all books, hard top, car cover, charger, soft top towel, and hard top stand & cover. All service records are available. A fantastic car that would be welcome in any enthusiast collection.
